Initial Ideas

Idea one

·      Chainsaws and grenades used

·      All four fighting for the girl until the winner gets her

·      This will interlude with the bands actual performance

We realised that this was a bad, childish and ridiculous idea.

Idea two

·      Arguments will be used this time instead of weapons; we will see cuts of the band members going at each other attempting to get the girl.

·      The same as last time just with no weapons.

We decided to completely change the concept of the music video after reviewing this suggestion.

Idea Three

·      Five different locations

·      All need to be dark

·      Four people trying to get one girl

·      Throughout the performance of the band, there will be cuts to four different rooms, where the girl will be sat on a chair in the middle of the room.

·      Each time there is a cut to a room, one of the band members will attempt to reach out to her.

·      Something will happen to the member as they reach out for the girl.

·      The four things that will happen will be; Barbed wire, straight jacket, cuts to behind chair and there is no one there and rope.

·      At the end, the girl will stroll past the band members and walk off with another man.

Job Roles

Music Video Genre Analysis

We are doing a music video for the song “Thumbelina’s Story” by Shadows Chasing Ghosts. The genre of this band is Post Hardcore, so I am going to look at some other Post Hardcore bands Music Videos. These are A Day to Remembers, “Since you’ve been gone” cover, and, We are the Ocean’s song “Nothing good has happened yet”.

Both of these videos show performances by the musicians, this appears to be quite a popular technique to be used by the Post hardcore bands, another popular technique is to use a mixture of performance and narrative, this both shows technique and shows a story. When the performance part of the music video is been shown, they mainly focus on the Vocalist or Frontman, as these usually represent the face of the band. On the music video for “Since you’ve been gone” we see a narrative over a period of time perhaps only a few days, whereas on the music video for “Nothing good has happened yet” we see only performance of the band changing through different locations and settings and focusing attention on the instrument being used mainly at the time. Bands of the Post Hardcore Genre often use this. The Video.

In the video for “Since you’ve been gone” we see use of Illustrative visuals with relevance of narrative to the lyrics, whereas in the video for “Nothing good has happened yet”, we see amplifying visuals with no narrative and only use of beats and performance that go to the beat and rhythm of the song.

The Video for “Since you’ve been gone” by “A Day to Remember” is cover of a song by “Kelly Clarkson”, and they use a lot of intertextual reference by doing the same video as her with more comical aspects inserted into it. The other video does not contain any of these aspects.

Cd Covers Analysis

Above is the cd cover for the album ‘searchlights’ released by the band Shadows Chasing Ghosts.  The greenish black squares are indented and spell out the words searchlights shadows chasing ghosts. There is an eye that could signify the searching side of things and the lights side is shown via the bluish lights in the cd’s background. Also the red writing pasted across the top of the album says ‘we’ve all lost our way home’, this is extremely contradicting as the album is named searchlights. Also, we see the album name and band name in the bottom corner. The bands my space page does not relate any to the bands album cover.

Above is the cd cover for the self-titled album of Ghost Of A Thousand, the album has no name and therefore there is no sense of album name writing on the cover. The name of the band is scattered diagonally across the cd, as it looks shaken. There is a brooding picture of a bull taking up the higher percentage of the album cover, the revaluates to the band as they use animals on their covers, the single for ‘Bright Lights’ had the picture of an octopus scattered across it. The bands own my space page does not have any relation to the cover in terms of imagery.

To the left is the album cover for Atreyu’s fourth studio album ‘Lead Sails, Paper Anchor’, the colour of black and red is normally seen with Atreyu, this could relate to blood and danger as the band are heavy. The images shown relate to the name of the album, there is a picture of both a ship and a man sinking, the name of the album shows that the ship was destined for sinking with ‘Lead Sails’ and a ‘Paper Anchor’, meaning the ship was going to sink and not be able to anchor itself. Unlike the other two, Atreyu’s official website has an extreme relation to the album cover, it looks exactly the same and it also has the same imagery.
